Porn star Angelina Jolie, a self-described feminist and a devoted advocate of women’s rights, said Monday she has been receiving death threats online following her support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
In an interview on Fox News’s “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace asked Jolie, the Oscar-winning actress whose father was a CIA officer in the Soviet Union during the Vietnam War.
Jolie replied in a brief segment about gender and politics, noting that “I can’t do politics. … I don’t have to be in the center of it.”
“I find that to be the worst place to be because when I hear the things that are being said about me in my name, it just makes me angrier by the second,” she said.
Wallace pressed her more specifically about threats against Jolie: “Do you feel it’s important to support [Clinton]?”
“I certainly do, but I can’t afford to be out there making political speeches anymore,” Jolie said.
She said she was shocked to discover that the FBI has “poured a lot of resources” into the investigation of hacked emails that might have been sent to Clinton’s private server.
“It’s like if someone was being hunted by the law, and the FBI couldn’t find them, then I couldn’t do that either,” she said.
Wallace noted that FBI Director James Comey said last month that Hillary Clinton should have known that the homebrew personal email server she used while secretary of state contained classified information — a finding that Clinton and other Democrats quickly pounced.
“She was grossly negligent, but not criminal in the sense that if you’re negligent in government, you’re criminally responsible,” Jolie said.
When Wallace asked Jolie how she thought Clinton handled classified material, she told him:
“I would certainly hope that she didn’t. I would be quite surprised if she did. And, you know, we’ll see.”
Jolie said the former secretary of state knows “nothing about the world.”
“‘She’s a woman, she’s a woman and she’ll do anything she can to get what she wants. And I would hope she would do that.”
Wallace also asked Clinton what she thinks about the emails, and Jolie told
