In most cultures, the saffron threads of India and the Middle East are harvested from the blossoms of the saffron plant – a type of plant that grows in tropical climates in the Middle East – in early summer or late autumn; however, it grows in the Mediterranean country and Central America during late summer/early autumn.
I see that my package says that it is shipped in a plastic container. What do you mean by this?
Most saffron thread in the United States comes from a factory in the state of New Jersey. This is the only type of factory that produces saffron thread in the United States. For additional information, please see the description of “saffron thread in a jar”.
Is it possible to find saffron threads in a package labeled “saffron thread”?
Yes, of course – it is possible to find saffron threads in a sealed plastic container. That container can be a small hand-shaped jar or the equivalent of a 2 ounce plastic bowl or other container of comparable size. Saffron thread may not be visible in these containers.
How does it happen that I can’t find a saffron thread?
A small percentage of our customers occasionally encounter problems with the quality or quantity of their order by encountering different types of products. Some of these customer problems can be traced to a manufacturing error or manufacturer misidentification of the plant that was used in the production of our product – or could have been caused by environmental and other influences.
