The biggest life advice I would give is to first understand what life is — and then learn how to practice doing it.
When my daughter was 12, she told me she wanted to go to college in life coaching. She wanted to be the best student-athlete at the university. I said, “OK, we’ll do it! That will be fun.” But a few months later, she was already in the weight room, she was ready to be a coach. We started to see a whole different side of her.
What are some life coaching lessons you have learned?
You don’t have to have a Ph.D to be a life coach. When you are able to work alongside others to improve yourself physically, mentally and socially, I believe you will have a really strong relationship with people and your life.
What was the best advice you heard from a life coach?
This was a tough one, but my biggest life coach was an amazing woman I met years ago who has led me to a really good job and who is the best thing that’s happened to me in my life so far. In 2005, I met her when I visited her in Florida and we started dating. She is kind, beautiful and funny. She took an incredible interest in me and encouraged me to go to college. At the same time, she is a life coach. She also did great mentoring and coaching for other women. That’s why I recommend her to everyone, regardless of their life goals or experience level.
Do you have any life-related stories you’d like to share with us?
The stories were overwhelming. I remember a woman working part-time jobs so she could go to college; I’m not the only one she told this to. Another woman, who has just reached her 50s, made us watch a marathon on her TV. The people I met are amazing, so it was really interesting not only to hear their stories but also to meet the people who had helped them reach this point. They were just so inspiring.
