I don’t know. Some days I like it. And some days I don’t like it at all. You don’t have to do music videos when you are going to get paid to do regular commercials or whatever.
When you are making TV specials or even just regular commercials, do you do it all the time? I don’t know. I really don’t. I think I’ve actually only done one or two episodes of things. I don’t think I ever will. Like, it hasn’t interested me for real. I don’t care very much about that, especially on the commercial side.
There is still one thing you have to ask, I think. You have a very long, long road to go. There are so many opportunities out there that you are not going to get paid for a minute. And there are so many producers out there who will tell you to get a TV show for free, and that’s not the way it works. They will tell you on that show this is what you’re going to do with your big big money and you’re going to be paid and they’ll give you a script and they’ll say, “OK, you have to shoot it at the same time every night, and the director is not going to work on one take—they always work in pairs, because they have to.”
And then they’ll have the camera on the girl who doesn’t move very much and they’re not going to cut away, the guy who’s been filming the girl, the woman who’s been filming—those three people, and if the director is not working there are a lot of rules and a lot of cameras and a lot of equipment. And if you’re at an airport at 1 p.m. they’re not going to be happy, so that’s one thing.
So what did we learn from your time on this show about doing commercials?
[Laughs] There are definitely rules and it is always fun sometimes, when it is a comedy like this, but I have to tell you the truth about it. Every time you do it there’s a lot more cameras and you try to keep all of that on set and at the expense of how many hours of sleep you have. You’re just never going to sleep on set. So what that means is that you have been in this business for a while now and if you’re working on a show like this, that’s your show to take home and you don’t worry about not doing enough or
