What are the eligibility requirements?
The eligibility requirements include:
You must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Canada that offers an accredited degree, training, or credential. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or have permanent residency, and you must be at least 18 years of age. You must be enrolled in a program of study approved by the Canada Council for the Accreditation of Education in Education for Children and Youth (CCEE) and hold an endorsement (such as an ECE) from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCET). This endorsement gives you the right to perform an examination for admission into a specific postsecondary program. You must have completed an acceptable work experience and the work experience must have been in the physical, biological, or social activities of a health related field. You cannot have been enrolled in a program of study that only focuses on a specific field or has restricted enrolment. You may not be enrolled in a program of study unless your study period is more than 12 months. You may not be enrolled in a program of study unless you will have completed a minimum amount of program study. Your study period must not exceed 12 months. If you do not fall within one of the eligibility criteria, the Department may award a student loan for the cost of tuition fees. The award will include a minimum amount of tuition fees for your program of study. All other charges will be collected from you after the period of study is completed. The total costs for your program of study will be determined by the federal program funding source and will be determined by examining your program schedule and applying a pre-determined formula. See the Canada Student Loan program for more information. See the Canada Student Loans website for detailed information regarding student loan eligibility.
If you are an international student, you may not be eligible for the student loan program if you live outside of Canada as of the last day of your program of study.
