The most significant change to the boilers is the addition of 2,000 pounds (1,000 kilograms) of cast stainless steel. These are new cast and assembled units that were first introduced a decade ago and are now fully integrated and tested. We are also moving to a multi-gasification system.
Is there a grant for the purchase of the boiler?
Yes. The total cost of the two boilers is currently between $1.4 million and $1.3 million. They are being purchased from an existing owner who is renovating the boiler and we are in discussions with potential buyers to complete our buy-out.
Can the contractor perform the install and installation of the piping?
Yes. The pipe fitting will be done by a certified plumber at a certified work site.
Can I install the piping myself and if so, how is it going to work for me?
Installers will be able to install the piping as well as perform repair work on the plumbing. A contractor will be responsible for the work as well as any repairs done. The contractor must be at least 18 years old with at least 3 years of experience.
Is there a grant for additional heating equipment?
For added heating capacity, we are recommending the purchase of a dual-fuel stove to accommodate for both natural gas and heat generated by heat pumps. This adds approximately 25 to 30 to the total heating capacity of the house with the added benefit of fuel management. This would provide approximately 250 additional to 275 additional heat miles, which would further reduce the amount of energy used in the home.
Can I use the boiler on my own?
No. We can arrange for the boiler to be installed for a contractor. When installers have completed the installation, a boiler repair kit will be
Why do we need the boilers?”
Heat pumps are used to produce more heat and are more efficient. The natural gas heat is produced by an electric pump operated on four cylinders and the heat is delivered to the boiler through two large ducts. The boilers run either with natural gas or heat from heat pumps via two central heat exchangers. This allows the heat to be transferred out of the house and stored in a heat storage tank and returned to the house. All heat pumps for use with the house use gas as a fuel.
To date, two boilers have been installed in this model residence.
